Oak Park Arms Adult Day Care wins award from Oak Park’s Aging in Place Commission
The Oak Park Arms Adult Day Care received an award from the Aging in Place Commission at the Village of Oak Park’s annual community service awards ceremony held Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the Oak Park Village Hall.
This marked the first year that the Aging in Place Commission recognized organizations that provide extraordinary accessibility for older residents and their families. The commission was created to advise the Village Board in its efforts to facilitate full participation in community activities by its senior residents.
The Oak Park Arms Adult Day Care is a life enrichment program for older adults at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave., Oak Park. It has made a dramatic difference in both the adult who goes to Adult Day Care and to that adult’s caregiver(s).
The purpose of Oak Park Arms Adult Day Care is to provide personal attention and to promote social, physical and emotional well-being to seniors in a private, structured setting. Participants spend their daytime hours with their day care family, then return home in the evenings.
“We are so proud of our Adult Day Care program, and we are thrilled to be recognized by the Aging in Place Commission,” said Moses Williams. “Our Adult Day Care is a healthy and safe place for a loved one, and our promise is to enhance the lives of the people we serve. They need and deserve stimulation, respectful care, and companionship.”
The program offers personalized assistance with activities of daily living including medication reminders and meals. Additional services include transportation and escorts to appointments. Health maintenance activities are part of each day, and educational activities include music, presentations from experts, performances, arts and crafts, current events, games, reminiscing opportunities and more.
Continental breakfast, a healthy hot 3-course lunch, and a nutritious afternoon snack are served daily prepared by the chefs of the Oak Park Arms. In addition, a nurse consultant works with each program participant, his or her family and the staff to design individualized care plans that will optimize the adult day care experience.
“We like to think of the Adult Day Care program as a gift to both the seniors who attend it and caregivers,” Williams said. “Everyone benefits.”
